On Behalf of | Nov 16, 2012 | Car accidents

A driver has been charged with DUI in an accident that injured three Douglas County teenage girls. The Georgia State Police investigation into the Nov. 6 accident is ongoing. The girls injured in this case may have a legal right to seek compensation for their damages, such as medical bills, that resulted from recklessness in this accident.

The crash occurred in Austell on Maxham Road near Thornton Road at around 1:30 a.m. Police said that the girls were walking to the store when the drunk driver hit them. Police said the girl who was the most seriously injured suffered head trauma in the accident and was at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in critical condition. Another girl, also in critical condition, received head trauma and was at Grady Memorial Hospital. The last girl broke her ankle and was at Scottish Rite.

One local resident said that it is common for people to be walking on that stretch of road. He saw the scene shortly after accident and described debris littered across the road and a car crashed with its horn going off.

The 22-year-old driver of the car is from Chicago. She was arrested and is being held in the Douglas County Jail. She has been charged with multiple crimes including driving under the influence and serious injury by vehicle.

The girls injured in this accident may have the right to seek compensation in the form of a personal injury claim against the drunk driver. They should be aware of their legal rights before making any decisions about the case.
