Marietta resident killed in Christmas Eve collision

For many people in Georgia, the winter holidays are a time of sharing love and joy among family and friends. Sadly, one family spent their holidays mourning the loss of a loved one after a tragic car accident took the life of a woman on Christmas Eve.

The accident occurred in Smyrna around 10:30 p.m. Monday night. Cobb County officers suspect the foggy conditions may have contributed to the crash. They say one vehicle crossed the center yellow line on Smyrna Powder Springs Road and collided with an oncoming car.

A total of five people were injured in the serious crash. All were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One passenger, however, a 46-year-old woman from Marietta, did not survive. She was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

So far, police have not filed charges in relation to this crash, but the situation is still being investigation. Even if police end up never filing charges, several people are still left to pay medical bills for treatment and one family is left to pick up the pieces after losing their loved one.

In situations like this, it's important for victims and their families to know that there are ways to hold a negligent a driver accountable for his or her actions, even if no criminal charges are filed. A personal injury or wrongful death claim, if successful, can allow a family or accident victim to collect compensation from an individual who negligently caused an accident that resulted in injury or death.
