Police find hit-and run-driver who left the scene

On Behalf of | Oct 23, 2013 | Car accidents

Georgia state troopers are expected to file charges against a driver involved in an early morning hit-and-run. The driver hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Brown Bridge Road and Hardwood Drive in Newton County at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 19. The pedestrian, a 19-year-old Conyers man, was injured and taken to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver left the scene.

Reports indicate that the pedestrian was in the roadway, but it was not specified if he was in a crosswalk. After information was released about the vehicle, which was thought to have damage to the right passenger-side turn signal and a missing side mirror, police were led to what was thought to be the vehicle. The driver was then taken into custody.

That was only the first of two car accidents to occur in Newton County that morning. During the second accident, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala was traveling on Georgia Highway 212 near Oak Hill Road when it left the road on a curve at about 2:30 a.m. When the car hit a tree, a 20-year-old female passenger from Covington was partially ejected from the vehicle. She was extricated and transported to Atlanta Medical Center. The driver died in the crash.

When individuals are injured in accidents through no fault of their own, they may be faced with unexpected medical expenses at a time that they might be unable to work to their fullest abilities. If the driver who caused the accident is found to have been driving negligently, the injured persons may choose to request that the driver pay their medical expenses and compensate them for their lost wages. A personal injury attorney may file a claim on their behalf.
