On Behalf of | Jan 31, 2014 | Wrongful Death

Two people were killed and another person was injured following a car accident that occurred on Jan. 17 on Georgia Highway 112. According to the Georgia State Patrol, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m.

An 81-year-old man was reportedly driving west on Shingle Sumner Road in a pickup truck. As he attempted to turn left onto the highway, a semi truck that was traveling north struck the vehicle. A second pickup truck, driven by a 23-year-old man, was driving south when the crash occurred. The driver attempted to swerve out of the way of the wreck but ultimately collided with both vehicles head-on.

The 81-year-old man was airlifted to Macon for treatment but died from his injuries. The 23-year-old man’s death as a result of the accident was also confirmed in the report, though it was not known if he died at the scene or at a nearby hospital. The driver of the semi truck was treated at Tift Regional Medical Center before he was released. Police stated that the pickup truck driver who attempted to turn left onto the highway caused the accident for failing to yield to the right of way.

When a car accident occurs, those who are involved are at risk for suffering serious injuries or even death. Those who lose their loved ones when a negligent driver causes a crash could file a wrongful death claim. By filing this claim, the family members could seek financial compensation for their loss. Even if the driver who caused the accident does not survive, the family could seek compensation from that driver’s insurance or from their estate.
