Why you need to know your long-term care ombudsman

You may have met nursing home directors across the state of Georgia as you looked for a safe place for your loved one to live where he or she can receive round-the-clock attention. Interviewing those who work in the facilities is one way for you to get an idea of the value they place on preserving the dignity and quality of life of the residents. Our legal team at H.L. Cromartie III, P.C., understands that this process does not end after the move, as your continuing vigilance may reveal cases of abuse and neglect that were not at first apparent.

What are common injuries from slip-and-fall accidents?

Uneven or slick surfaces may seem insignificant, but they can lead to debilitating slip-and-fall injuries that can change your life forever. While many of victims in Georgia are elderly, there are many young, healthy people who also sustain severe injuries. The Brain Injury Society claims that 25 percent of spinal cord injuries are caused by falls and traumatic brain injuries occur from a fall 35 percent of the time. There are several other injuries that can occur when you slip.

Dangers to workplace safety

Employers in Georgia are expected to provide safe facilities for their employees in order to minimize the chance of workplace injuries. Even in an office setting, there are several areas which may present a danger to employees if not maintained properly. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, people who work at a desk for long periods of time are susceptible to injuries such as back and eye strain. Employers should provide their workers with high quality, ergonomic chairs which provide optimal back support. Additionally, adjusting the lighting to compensate for extended computer use may be helpful.

Tips for sharing the road with large trucks

Being on a Georgia road with a large truck can be intimidating. Esurance.com reports that the dangers that face car drivers are high, with smaller vehicle occupants accounting for 68 percent of the fatalities in crashes involving large trucks. Part of the reason for this is the differences in the size and weight of the two type of vehicles and how these differences affect operations. There are several things that all drivers can do to safely share the road with large trucks and avoid accidents.
