Drunk driving accidents can cause serious injuries

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2016 | Car accidents

Many Georgia residents have been involved in a so-called “fender bender” before. These types of car accidents are quite common, typically causing no injuries and only minor damage to vehicles that can be fixed quite quickly a local body shop. Unfortunately, there are other, more serious car accidents that occur on a near daily basis in Georgia — car accidents that can cause serious injuries and even fatalities. Perhaps no other danger is more serious than the danger presented by drunk drivers on the roads who cause these types of serious car accidents.

A drunk driver is a reckless driver. Everyone knows that getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol is a dangerous choice, yet thousands of drivers in Georgia are arrested every year for driving under the influence. In the best case scenario, these reckless drivers are detected by law enforcement officials and arrested before they can do any damage. But, in the worst case scenario, these drunk drivers are arrested only after they have caused a devastating crash.

Law enforcement officials won’t automatically test drivers who are involved in a serious car accident for their blood alcohol content. Police officers usually will test drivers only if they detect signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech or impaired motor skills. But, how will police officers know to test someone if that driver is receiving medical care after a serious injury? Those who are injured in an auto accident may need to prompt law enforcement officials to make the requisite investigation.

At our law firm, we do our best to work with clients who have been injured in a car accident that was caused by a drunk driver.
