Worst 10 cities for car accidents ranked in recent report

On Behalf of | Feb 10, 2020 | Car accidents

In 2019, there were 953,630 car crashes in Georgia and across the U.S. This marks a 6.8% increase from 2018, which saw 892,615 crashes. The transportation nonprofit Go Safe Labs has come out with a list of the 10 cities that saw the most crashes in 2019 as well as a list of 10 “hotspots” where the most accidents arose.

Houston headed the first list with 22,188 motor vehicle accidents occurring there in 2019. After that came Charlotte, North Carolina, with 21,818 accidents followed by Los Angeles with 19,660. Two more cities in Texas, Austin and Dallas, came in fourth and fifth with 16,635 and 14,685 accidents, respectively. The list continued with Raleigh, Oklahoma City, Baton Rouge, Nashville and Phoenix.

Four of the cities made the list despite seeing a decrease in crashes from 2018 to 2019. Raleigh experienced the highest decrease at 25.5%. None of the cities listed above were connected with the top 10 “hotspots.” Researchers determined these hotspots through a simple analysis of latitude and longitude. It turns out that the most accident-prone region in the U.S. in 2019 was the Pelham Road Exit on Interstate 85 in Greenville, South Carolina. Two other locations in Greenville made the top 10 list along with an intersection in South Carolina’s capital, Columbia. Three locations were in or near New York City.

The report did not go into the reasons for the auto collisions, but there are a number of factors that are becoming more prominent: drowsy driving and distracted driving caused by phone use. These are just two of many forms of negligence. Victims of negligence have a way to seek compensation from the other side’s auto insurance company, but they may want legal representation since they will likely be negotiating with lawyers intent on denying payment.
