Drivers and pedestrians must obey crosswalk and intersection laws

Pedestrian safety is a priority in the traffic laws of Georgia. When foot travelers and drivers of cars share the road, it is important they follow safety guidelines. However, they must also obey the laws governing both forms of travel in order to avoid collisions and personal injury or death.

You can make yourself and your motorcycle more visible

Statistics from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety show that there were 134 motorcycle crash fatalities in the state in 2012. Of these, more than half were riders aged 40 and above. When you are a motorist, looking for motorcycles is not high on your list of priorities. When you are a biker, visibility is a chief concern.

Nursing home staff often use antipsychotics illegally on patients

Antipsychotic drugs are used to treat psychosis and mental conditions. Many of the drugs classified as an antipsychotic are tranquilizers, which makes a person groggy and tired. Chemical restraint occurs when someone uses medication to sedate a patient. Nursing homes sometimes use antipsychotics to control “problem behavior,” such as anxiety, wandering and confusion. Toby Edelman, an attorney with Center for Medicare Advocacy Inc., reports that about 41.8 percent of nursing home residents are being given antipsychotic medications in violation of prescribing guidelines.
