When a truck and a car collide on the road, the smaller vehicle often ends up the worse for wear. If the truck is carrying flammable or explosive materials, however, the situation can become dangerous for anyone in the area.Truck accidents are often serious, especially when large trucks are involved, causing extensive injuries, property damage and sometimes even death.
Readers in Floyd County may be aware of a serious incident that closed down part of a highway on the night of Mar. 1. The accident involved a station wagon and a fuel tanker that was exiting the highway. Statements from the 26-year-old driver of the station wagon indicated that crashing into the truck was a conscious decision caused by suicidal thoughts after a dispute with his wife. According to the driver, he spotted the fuel tanker and accelerated his vehicle, which resulted in it jumping the curb and striking the truck. The driver also added that he had been about to jump off the road bridge after the collision before police officers stopped him.
Before the accident, the tanker had been filled with 8,000 gallons of fuel. The crash resulted in flames erupting from the tanker truck, which forced the authorities to close down part of I-475. The driver of the station wagon was initially transported to a medical center before being moved to a burn center for treatment of the burns he received on his legs.
It may be possible for the driver of the fuel tanker to pursue compensation from the driver who intentionally caused this accident for lost wages and medical expenses. When exploring personal injury liability claims, it is best to consult with a knowledgeable personal injury attorney.
