Motorcyclist sets off chain-reaction wreck in Georgia

On Behalf of | Aug 28, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents

A chain-reaction wreck was set off around 10 p.m. on Aug. 22 when two motorcycles were speeding down Interstate 75 in Clayton County. An officer reportedly clocked the two motorcycles traveling at 110 mph before the accident occurred. The chain reaction wreck commenced when one of the motorcycles ran into the back of a Volkswagen and lost control.

The other motorcycle kept driving and avoided the dramatic chain of events that followed. After the other motorcycle rear-ended the Volkswagen, the driver was ejected from the bike, which flew over the wall of the median and fell into the windshield of a tractor-trailer going the opposite direction. That caused the driver of the tractor trailer to lose control, and somehow the trailer and tractor became disconnected. The trailer then crashed through the wall of the median and hit a SUV. According to Clayton County police, this chain of events was one of the more “unusual” car accidents they have investigated.

After that, the tractor part of the tractor-trailer caught fire. The police officer who had clocked the motorcycles speeding was able to extricate the driver from the burning vehicle. Fortunately, the driver was not burned in the incident, but he suffered injuries from the crash. The wreckage left by the motorcycle also caught fire before it was hit by a taxi, which then also caught fire. The motorcyclist who started the chain reaction suffered from serious injuries, but none of the other drivers beside the driver of the tractor-trailer were reported to be injured in the incident.

People could choose to file personal injury lawsuits in the accident even if they didn’t suffer from physical injuries. Accident victims who experienced trauma or other psychological damage might decide to seek compensation with the aid of a personal injury lawyer.
