Local men rescue paralyzed Georgia man from wreck

On Behalf of | Sep 11, 2013 | Car accidents

A woman was driving a car southbound on Georgia Highway 400 near Pilgrim Mill Road on Sept. 9, hit a freightliner tractor trailer and spun out of control, crashing into a van also heading south. Noticing the car accident, numerous people pulled over.

Without thinking, three men ran to help rescue any survivors. They noticed that the van had smoke rising out from under the hood, but a man was trapped inside. The three were able to remove the man, who is paralyzed, just seconds before the man burst into flames.

None of the men described themselves as heroes. One of the rescuers, a local off-duty paramedic, explained that while they didn’t take the necessary precautions, they focused on getting the man out because of natural instinct. Another of the men is a construction worker and explained that his actions were based upon the golden rule; he believes that he should always help his neighbors. While the driver of the out-of-control car later died from her injuries, one man owes his life to the quick-thinking actions of a few brave men.

With drivers on Georgia’s highways sharing the road with other cars, vans and trucks, a car accident can frequently result in serious injury. When an injured person is facing mounting medical bills, an attorney could help pursue compensation that would help them pay those bills. If the injured party is out of work during the healing and rehabilitation period, this compensation could be used to cover living costs until he or she is back on their feet.
