Possible road rage incident in Gainesville leaves two dead

On Behalf of | Oct 17, 2013 | Wrongful Death

According to the captain of the Gainesville Police Department, road rage may have been the factor behind the crash that left two people dead on Friday morning, Oct. 11. The accident occurred on Browns Bridge Road after 911 dispatchers received a call about a pickup truck that kept aggressively bumping a 2006 Toyota Highlander for reasons that were unknown.

The couple in the Highlander called 911 just after midnight reporting that a red truck was following them and kept turning its lights on and off. While they were on the phone with the dispatcher, they said that the truck ‘just hit them.” The driver of the pickup truck then attempted to pass the couple and ended up hitting an oncoming SUV head-on. The driver of the pickup truck as well as the driver of the SUV were both killed in the collision that occurred west of McEver Road. Both female passengers in the SUV were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the car wreck.

The family of the SUV driver could attempt to sue the estate of the driver of the pickup truck who allegedly caused the accident. They could potentially be reimbursed for their loved one’s burial expenses as well as her lost earning power. The family might also be able to seek compensation for their own emotional trauma and psychological damage that they incurred as a result of their loved one’s unexpected death.

A personal injury attorney might be able to assist them in filing a wrongful death claim. An attorney could be able to help them gather any necessary documents to support their claim. An attorney could also assist them by negotiating a favorable settlement with insurance companies.
