Woman killed in truck accident

On Behalf of | Mar 12, 2014 | Truck Accidents

A 51-year-old Georgia woman was killed in a car accident involving a work truck on March 5. According to the report, she was heading south in her Honda Accord on Veterans Memorial Parkway at approximately 6:18 a.m. when the work truck, driven by a 37-year-old man, made a left hand turn at an intersection and struck her in the driver’s side door.

At the time the report was released, not much else was known about the truck accident. However, it was known that the truck was owned by Norfolk Southern Railways and that the driver of the truck was most likely at fault for the truck accident. It was not known if he was on the job when the crash took place.

Because the vehicles that they drive are often much larger and heavier than other vehicles that use the roadways, the truck driver must be careful and drive responsibly. If they cause an accident, they may be safe from serious injuries because they are often over the site of impact. The occupants of vehicles that they hit, however, are at serious risk of being crushed or killed because they are in the impact zone. If the truck driver is found to be liable for the crash, they can be held responsible for the serious injuries or deaths that occurred.

If someone is killed in a truck accident, the person’s family members may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver and against the employer that hired them if they were working. The family may seek compensation for any damages that they suffered as a direct result of the death, including any medical bills that they became responsible for, lost income if they relied on the wages of the deceased person and loss of companionship.
