On Behalf of | Mar 11, 2015 | Car accidents

Lawmakers and law enforcement officials in Georgia, as in all other states, are constantly trying to find new ways to prevent drunk driving accidents. There are many different options available, whether it is from education campaigns to expanded enforcement patrols around certain holidays. However, in every state drunk drivers continue to cause deadly car accidents.

Statistics from 2012 show that 301 fatalities occurred in that year alone connected to alcohol-related accidents. Of those accidents 31 involved people who were under the legal drinking age of 21. Further, as most people know, the legal limit for a person to be arrested for drunk driving is .08 percent. Of the 301 fatalities that occurred in 2012, almost 70 percent involved drivers who had a blood alcohol level of .15 percent or higher.

Accidents causing injuries and fatalities are one thing, but another staggering statistics shows just how many arrests are linked to drunk driving. According to the statistics, in 2012 alone nearly 28,000 arrests were made in the state of Georgia for drunk driving charges.

Drunk driving can ruin lives – not just the lives of a driver who gets arrested, but also anyone who is unfortunate enough to be involved in a drunk driving accident. These accidents can lead to serious injuries, or even death. When this happens, families are torn apart. But, in the aftermath of these car accidents, the victims or their surviving family members may be able to pursue compensation from the drunk driver in the form of a personal injury lawsuit.
