Hit and run collision leaves bicyclist clinging to life

On Behalf of | Apr 2, 2015 | Car accidents

Any type of car collision has the chance to leave a Georgia resident injured, sometimes seriously. But, a hit and run type of car accident can be even more dangerous, because oftentimes the person who leaves the scene either doesn’t know that they hit something or someone – or they don’t care.

According to a recent report, a hit and run occurred on March 25. Law enforcement officials in Rome are investigating the incident. The report indicates that the victim, a 56-year-old man, was struck by a vehicle while he was riding a bicycle along U.S. 411. The man was transported to Floyd Medical Center, where even two days after he was injured in the auto accident he remained in critical condition.

The collision reportedly occurred close to midnight on March 25. There are no indications as to whether or not the victim was wearing reflective clothing or if he had a headlight of some kind on his bicycle. The reports indicate that there were no witnesses to the collision, so law enforcement officials are asking the public to come forward with any information that may prove useful in solving the case.

An officer with the Rome Police Department has explained that there may be little evidence to go forward with in an attempt to locate the driver of the vehicle that struck the bicyclist. Surveillance videos from nearby businesses apparently did not show anything useful, and the victim has been unable to communicate as he deals with potentially life-threatening injuries. However, if the driver is found, the victim may be able to pursue a personal injury case to recover compensation.
