Throughout the country, state and local governments are trying to raise public awareness regarding elder abuse. In some cases, unsuspecting senior citizens are victimized by random phone and mail scams, but in other cases a family member may be abusing the elderly person or taking advantage of their finances. One problem that is increasingly gaining more of a national focus is nursing home abuse and neglect.

When a family in Georgia comes to a decision to relocate an elderly family member to a nursing home or an assisted living facility, the decision usually comes with a great deal of consternation. However, sometimes an elderly person needs constant care that family members are simply not able to provide. Nursing homes can be one option to consider in these types of circumstances.

That being said, family members need to be able to trust the nursing home staff. It isn’t always easy to detect nursing home abuse and neglect, and oftentimes it comes down to the observations of visiting family members to see if anything might be wrong.
