On Behalf of | Apr 6, 2018 | Car accidents

From riding a bicycle to driving a large truck or even walking as a pedestrian, any type of traffic accident can be deadly or result in serious injuries. However, some people are especially vulnerable on the road for a multitude of reasons, such as those driving a scooter, in some instances. There are a number of reasons why scooter accidents happen and you should keep these risks in mind if you drive a scooter. Moreover, if you have a child who likes to ride a scooter, you should also discuss this issue with them to help reduce the likelihood of an accident.

There are a variety of accident risks associated with scooters, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. In fact, a study that assessed scooter accidents between July 2003 and June 2004 found that scooter operators played a role in many of the accidents which caused injuries (roughly 36 percent), while environmental factors played a role in roughly 35 percent of such accidents. Furthermore, problems with scooters were responsible for roughly 20 percent of such accidents. Examples of scooter-related issues include handle bars becoming loose, brakes failing, and wobbly wheels.

It is important to point out that many scooter accidents happen because of someone else’s negligent behavior. For example, a scooter driver may be hit by a drunk driver or someone who was driving over the speed limit. When someone is involved in a scooter accident, it is crucial to review any resources that could help them move forward from the wreck.
