Multi-vehicle accident on Georgia I-75 claims two lives

A traffic accident involving eight vehicles left a stretch of I-75 in Georgia temporarily closed during rush hour on the afternoon of Nov. 14. Police from Marietta and Cobb County responded to the multi-vehicle accident, which resulted in two deaths and three reported injuries. The initial collision involved a BMW hit from the rear by a truck driver. The BMW caught fire as a result. Other details of the collision were not made available in this report.

The identity of the lone occupant of the BMW was not yet confirmed at the time of the report. It was unclear whether the driver died as a result of the collision or fire. A 71-year-old resident of Peachtree City was rushed by emergency medical personnel to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and pronounced dead. She was traveling with her 72-year-old husband and 38-year-old son. Both were treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was treated for unreported injuries.

The police investigation of the semi truck accident remained ongoing at the time of the report, and no criminal charges had yet been filed. Some investigators suggested that roadwork may have played a factor in the multi-vehicle accident. It is unknown whether the families of the victims intend to pursue a civil case.

Truck accidents can leave victims and their families to face emotional pain and suffering on top of any financial toll. Medical expenses, disability or impairment, lost wages and funeral expenses can all be too much to think about for a grieving family or traumatized victim. At such a time, the injured or grieving parties may turn to a qualified attorney. An advocate for victims may be able to monitor the accident investigation and suggest potential avenues of compensation for emotional and financial damages.
