2 charged after fatal car accident on Interstate 75/85 in Georgia

With all the ads reminding drivers to drive safely around motorcycles and to avoid driving after consuming alcohol, there is no reason a drunk driver should be on the road. There is also no reason a driver should hit a motorcycle. In a recent accident along Interstate 75/85 in Atlanta, an alleged drunk driver hit a motorcycle in an accident that was fatal.

The female driver of a Hyundai Sonata was allegedly trying to merge into the lane to exit onto Interstate 20 when she hit the back of a motorcycle. A female passenger on the motorcycle was thrown from the motorcycle by the impact. She was run over by the Sonata, and the motorcycle slammed into the retaining wall.

Following the accident the male driver of the motorcycle sought his companion, calling her name. He fled the scene when she didn't respond to his calls. At the scene of the accident, the driver of the Sonata underwent a field sobriety test that included a breath test, which registered a .209 percent blood alcohol content.

Ultimately, the both the driver of the Sonata and the driver of the motorcycle are now facing criminal charges. The Sonata driver was charged with DUI, first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving and following too closely. The motorcycle driver, who was arrested as he was trying to get medical care, was charged with theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run and first-degree vehicular homicide. It isn't clear if those charges are the result of the car accident involving the Sonata.

Car accidents that involve a fatality are difficult to read about. For the families of people killed in accidents, there is an increased difficulty. For these people, seeking compensation for their loved one's death might help to reduce the financial impact of the accident. Learning how to seek compensation in Georgia through the assistance of a lawyer, might help family members to decide how to handle claims for compensation.
