Can you recover from a brain injury after a car accident?

Every day throughout Georgia people are injured in car accidents. Some suffer minor injuries, like bruises and abrasions, in what we typically call "fender-benders." Others, however, are not so lucky, suffering serious injuries that may require hospitalization and weeks or even months of recovery. One of the most severe injuries that a person can suffer from in a car accident is a brain injury.

There are many different ways that a person's brain could be injured in an auto accident. But, the most common brain injuries are probably concussions, at a minimum, and traumatic brain injuries, at worst. The prospect of suffering from one of these types of injuries is frightening, especially when you ask yourself the question: Can you recover from a brain injury after a car accident?

The question, unfortunately, is not easily answered. This is because brain injuries can be so different from person to person, with effects and symptoms varying widely. For instance, two people could both suffer a concussion in the same car accident, and one of them may be fine after a couple of days of rest, while the other may experience intense symptoms like nausea and disorientation for weeks. The severity of the concussion will play a part in the time it takes to recover from the injury.

Traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs, are quite another story. Making a full recovery after suffering from a TBI is not a given, and many people will spend months or even years in steady rehabilitation in order to regain functions that may be lost due to the injury. This type of approach to recovering from a brain injury takes time and money -- something that isn't necessarily available to the victim of a car accident. That is why many injured victims will pursue personal injury lawsuits in order to seek financial compensation.
