What are some causes of trucker fatigue?

For all drivers, fatigue can be incredibly dangerous. When people are too tired to drive to the fullest of their ability, they may be more likely to cause a fatal accident or a crash which leaves innocent people with injuries. Unfortunately, this problem is especially concerning in the trucking industry and many large truck drivers take to the road when they are too tired. In Georgia, and on roads across the United States, truck companies and drivers should recognize this problem and take steps to reduce the prevalence of truck driver fatigue.

According to information presented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there are a variety of reasons for truck driver fatigue. One of the most obvious involves failing to get enough sleep, which can be especially problematic for those who are required to work during nighttime hours or hours that their body has not yet adjusted to. However, many more causes exist, such as the use of certain kinds of medication and even a poor diet. Sometimes, people take certain prescriptions or even over-the-counter drugs that can leave them feeling drowsy, while others may suffer from fatigue because they have not eaten in a long time. Moreover, eating too much or too little can interfere with sleep schedules as well.

When someone is hit by a truck driver, they deserve access to any resources that can help them move beyond the collision. From medical expenses to debilitating injuries, these wrecks make life incredibly hard for victims and their families.
